02.12.2021 | 16:50The Pentagon chief has commented on the information about the buildup of Russian troops at the border with Ukraine.
Lloyd Austin called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to be “more open” and “lower the temperature in the region.”
“We hope Putin will be more open, they will work to settle problems, to reduce the temperature in the region,” Austin told a news conference with his South Korean counterpart Seo Wook in Seoul. He also said that the United States is concerned about “the presence of Russian troops on the border with Ukraine.”
Information about a possible Russian attack on Ukraine began to appear in the media in November. Commenting on these publications, Vladimir Putin said that Russia is not attacking, but has to respond to NATO’s constant approach to the country’s borders. Washington has promised to impose “high-efficiency economic sanctions” in the event of a Russian invasion.
