Australian parliament debating recognition of Armenian Genocide

29.11.2021 | 12:14For the first time ever, Australia’s House of Representatives will debate on November 29,a Motion calling on the Australian Government to recognize the Armenian, Assyrian, and Greek Genocides, reports the Armenian National Committee of Australia (ANC-AU).
The Motion by Trent Zimmerman (MP for North Sydney) proposes that the Australian government uphold its commitment to the 1948 Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide by recognizing “the genocide committed by the Ottoman Empire between 1915 and 1923 of Armenians, Assyrians, Greeks and other Christian minorities…”
If case of a majority vote in favor of the resolution, the House of Representatives will call on the government to implement the will of the people and recognize the genocides of Armenians, Assyrians and Greeks.
