Turkey: Protesters take to streets, clash with police

24.11.2021 | 13:15Spontaneous protests were held in a number of Turkish cities after the devaluation of the national currency, the lira, Halk TV channel reported.
Demonstrators in Istanbul and Ankara chanted “Government Resign” and some held posters demanding the ouster of the ruling Justice and Development Party. In the capital, demonstrator clashed with the police. Students of the Middle East Technical University (METU) took part in a protest in Ankara. They gathered in the area of the dormitory and marched. They chanted “Leave the government”, “The burden of the crisis is on the shoulders of the bosses”, “Turn on the light, the lamp will explode”.
Some of the participants marched with pots and pans. Eyewitness footage shows police arresting one of the students.
