WHO to discuss safety of AstraZeneca vaccine

16.03.2021 | 11:38The World Health Organization and the European Medicines Agency have called for the continued use of AstraZeneca’s vaccine, saying the benefits outweigh the risks. In recent days, several countries at once, including Germany, Italy, and France, have suspended vaccinations due to reports of thrombosis in those vaccinated. The safety of the vaccine on Tuesday at a special meeting will be discussed by WHO and the European Medical Regulator.
There is still no evidence of a link between vaccination and blood clots.
“At this stage, we do not see any connection between these cases [blood clots] and vaccination. We recommend continuing to use the drug for vaccination,” Soumya Swaminathan, WHO’s chief scientist, said on Monday.
