21.10.2021 | 15:33Russian Foreign Minister Lavrov has said that the Armenian authorities are interested in opening Russian schools in Armenia. Speaking to reporters after the government meeting, Minister of Education and Science Vahan Dumanyan, referring to this statement, said: “Honestly, I have not found any news with such wording. I have not seen anywhere that the Armenian leadership, any official from the leadership of the government or a high-ranking official of the Russian Federation, the Foreign Minister you mentioned, in particular, said that the Government of the Republic of Armenia is going to open new Russian schools. I have not read such news anywhere, if you have the link, please give it to me. It was a little different, to show interest in some programs, etc. It probably was. The Ministry, we did not have any contact with Mr. Lavrov. Indeed, any program deserves attention to understand what it is about.”
He emphasized that such an issue is not on the agenda at the moment.
“Be sure, we do not have such an issue on the agenda at the moment. But I want to talk about that topic, why do we just separate the Russian language? Yes, we are interested in foreign languages, we think that no matter how many foreign languages we know, including the issue of popularization of our strategic partner Russia related to the Russian language, yes, we can do that. And the more languages we know, the more flexible and informed we will be, the more free we will be. We need contacts in the 21st century. Knowing the language will give us more opportunities, especially with our strategic partner Russia.”
