15.10.2021 | 14:01Yesterday, the Dutch parliament passed an almost unanimous resolution against the Azerbaijani authorities, stating that “the pressure on the opposition and the citizens of Azerbaijan has intensified in Azerbaijan,” the director of the Institute for Peace and Democracy, Leyla Yunus, has told the Azerbaijani Turan agency.
She said the initiator of the discussions was the institute itself, which addressed the parliament with a report on the human rights situation in Azerbaijan that presented details on the existence of 122 political prisoners in the country, the torture of people involved in the “Priest case”, and so on. The Institute draws attention to these issues ahead of the December summit of the Eastern Partnership countries, to which Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev is also invited. According to Leyla Yunus, the Dutch parliament called on the European Commission to monitor the “deteriorating human rights situation in Azerbaijan.”
