Armenian NGOs Warn Vardanyan’s Political Past Threatens Constitutional Court Independenc
Former defense minister’s lawyers issue statement denying any wrongdoing

Former Defense Minister Davit Tonoyan’s lawyers have issued a statement, which says in parts:
“Mr. Tonoyan denies the accusation brought against him and in any case he never will accept it as he is accused of an act that he has not committed. After resigning as Minister of Defense of the Republic of Armenia, Mr. Tonoyan refrained from commenting, taking into account the state secret, the interests of the National Security of the Republic of Armenia and the interstate relations. Even today, Mr. Tonoyan puts those interests above his own interests and, having a large amount of information, he does not use it for his own protection in the public sphere. Mr. Tonoyan is sure that the results of the examination carried out by persons with special professional knowledge will give substantiated and impartial answers to the allegations about “low-quality” and “non-compliant” weapons for the Armenia Armed Forces. Mr. Tonoyan will fight for justice, for the restoration of his innocence and good reputation.”
