In the last 14 days there is a 91% increase in the rate of COVID cases in Armenia

11.03.2021 | 13:40The epidemic situation in Armenia can be assessed as very tense, the reproductive rate of the infection is higher than 1. This was announced by Romella Abovyan, Head of the Epidemiology Department of the National Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the Ministry of Health.
“Currently, the epidemic situation can be assessed as very tense, as there has been a sharp increase of new cases in recent days. According to the results of the analysis, if we compare the data of the last 14 days with the previous 14 days, we already have an increase of more than 91%,” said Abovyan.
Moreover, she said the reproductive rate of the infection in Armenia is already higher than 1, it is 1.3.
“It means that if no action is taken in the next 7 days if we do not raise our vigilance against safety rules, we can have an additional 3700 new cases,” said Abovyan and reminded of the 3 preventive measures proposed by the WHO: hand sanitization, social distance preservation, wearing masks. According to her, at the moment there is a sharp increase in cases among children and adolescents. For example, the incidence has increased 1.17 times among 3-5-year-olds, 1.42 times among 6-17-year-olds, and 3.3 times among 6-8-year-olds.
