The UN International Court of Justice will start hearing on October 14 the lawsuit Armenia has filed against Azerbaijan for violation of the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination, DW’s Russian service reported.

The October 14-15 hearings will be related to Armenia’s demand for temporary interim measures against Azerbaijan. A similar Azerbaijani demand for Armenia will be considered on October 18-19.

Taking into account the COVID-19 epidemic, the sessions will be held in a hybrid format. Some of the judges will participate in the hearings in person, others will join via video link. Representatives of the parties will be able to participate in the hearings either in person or by video.

After Armenia filed a lawsuit against Azerbaijan in the UN International Court of Justice on September 16, Baku filed a counterclaim last week. Azerbaijan accuses Armenia of “ethnic cleansing” and, consequently, of violating the International Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Racial Discrimination. Both Armenia and Azerbaijan demand emergency measures to protect the rights of their inhabitants.
