Azerbaijan president voices fresh territorial claims

27.08.2021 | 17:43Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has once again distorted the historical facts and once again voiced a territorial claim against Armenia. Speaking at a ceremony of giving apartments and cars to the families of “martyrs” and war handicapped, Aliyev said that the Soviet government had taken Zangezur from Azerbaijan and gave it to Armenia.
“Unfortunately, our people have been facing injustices for many years. In the 20s of the 20th century, two great blows were dealt to our people. The first was in 1920․ At that time, the Soviet government took Zangezur away from Azerbaijan, which is our historical land, and annexed it to Armenia. The second was in 1923, when an artificial formation was created in our territory, the autonomous region of Nagorno Karabakh. There was no basis for it: neither historical, nor geographical, or economic. This artificial body was simply implanted in our land so that it would remain a living bomb that would explode at the right time,” Aliyev said.
