27.08.2021 | 16:12UNHCR officials, who visited Latvia, say 83 refugees have disappeared from the Latvia-Belarus border, LETA reported, citing the “I want to help refugees” volunteer organization, EADaily writes.
Egil Grassmanis, a spokesman for the organization, expressed concern that 83 people had disappeared from the border on the night of August 23-24, the day the refugee agency visited the area. The Latvian border guards could not explain this fact in any way. Grassmanis said his organization had bought food for people stranded at the border, but on August 24 border guards said they could not hand it over to anyone because there were no people, and on August 23 communication with asylum seekers was cut off.
