23.08.2021 | 13:42The Criminal Court of Appeal ruled today in favor of the Prosecutor General’s Office request to detain Armen Charchyan, a member of the Armenia bloc and former director of the Izmirlian Medical Center.
On July 21, the Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan ruled to sustain the request by Charcyhan’s defense attorney to release him on 15 million dram (about US $30,000) bail.
According to the defense, the judge made an apparent illegal ruling, as Charchyan, who was out of prison for a month, showed proper behavior.
“Mr. Charchyan did not commit an illegal act, then why to arrest him again? It is not only us but the judge too understands, there is pressures from outside,” his attorney, Erik Aleksanyan, told Factor.am, adding that presently, Armen Charchyan is not under detention yet.
During the election campaign, a recording with Charchyan urging his subordinates to vote in the parliamentary election was made public. Within a few hours, he was arrested.
