Putin, Macron discuss Karabakh

20.08.2021 | 12:18On August 19, Vladimir Putin had a telephone conversation with French President Emanuel Macron. According to the Kremlin, at the request of Macron, Putin informed him about the Karabakh progress. He said the situation in the region is generally stable, steps are being taken to restore economic and transport ties in the South Caucasus and meet the humanitarian needs of the population.
“Mutual readiness was expressed for further joint work on various aspects of the Nagorno Karabakh settlement, first of all in the OSCE Minsk Group,” the Kremlin said in a statement.
From his part, President Macron expressed his concern at the resurgence of tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan. The two presidents reaffirmed their common desire to see the co-presidency of the Minsk Group play an increased role in order to reach lasting solutions following the autumn 2020 war and the tripartite agreement of 9 November 2020.
