23.07.2021 | 14:20Moscow and Baku have the same stance on the Nagorno Karabakh issue: both Azerbaijan and Russia consider the conflict over, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has said in an interview with the Azerbaijani AZTV.
He said that during his visit to Moscow on July 20, he discussed the situation in the region with Russian President Vladimir Putin. “We discussed the post-war situation in the region, including the Zangezur Corridor and the post-conflict situation. We do not disagree on approaches. We, Russia and Azerbaijan, believe that the war is over, the conflict is over,” Aliyev said.
He added the risks of war must be minimized and eliminated. “We do not have disagreements on this issue, we have the same opinion. As for the Zangezur Corridor, I informed Mr. Putin that Armenia is not sincere in that issue. I said at a press conference with Mr. Michel that all means of communication in the region should be opened at the same time and a selective approach should not be used.” He added that the so-called “Zangezur Corridor” should be opened, as envisaged in the November 10, 2020 declaration.
It is noteworthy there is no provision on the “Zangezur Corridor” in the November 10, 2020 declaration; it only mentions the Lachin corridor. Aliyev also said that Armenia has stopped the activity of the trilateral working group of deputy prime ministers since June. Speaking about bilateral relations with Russia, he said Baku and Moscow are strategic partners, “there are no disagreements over long-term” strategic cooperation.
“We have very strong friendly ties, I personally have very close relations with Mr. Putin, we are politicians who trust each other. It is very important. During my last visit, issues of bilateral agenda were discussed,” Aliyev concluded.
