In a letter to the Netherland’s ambassador to Azerbaijan, the Armenian National Committee of the Netherlands has expressed its discontent over the ambassador’s participation in a visit to the occupied regions of Artsakh.

The letter that was published on the ANC’s Facebook page, reads:

“Dear Mrs. Eizema, We received information that you also participated in the diplomatic meeting in the city of Shushi, occupied by Azerbaijan. The Armenian community in the Netherlands is deeply disappointed and outraged by your participation. It is very strange that you take such a step when the parliament of our country strongly condemned the policy of Azerbaijan, issued clear messages refraining from participating in any international event in that country. You accept the invitation of a notorious dictator like Aliyev! We are shocked that, contrary to all moral values, you show complete contempt for the Armenian people, the Armenian community of the Netherlands, and the Armenian prisoners of war illegally detained in Azerbaijan. Did you not know that the representatives of the United States, the Russian Federation, France and Germany refused to take part in that gathering? By the way, these are the countries that have always pursued the peaceful settlement of the Artsakh issue within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group. In fact, with your participation you prove that you are against the peaceful steps of this international organization representing these countries. For months, the Dutch government has condemned the occupation of Artsakh by Azerbaijan in various resolutions, as well as Aliyev’s attitude towards Armenian prisoners of war. During this period, Azerbaijan continues the illegal imprisonment of Armenian prisoners of war, their illegal convictions. The parliament has made four different resolutions on this aggression-dictatorial policy. With your participation you completely ignore the decisions of our democratically elected parliament. We demand an explanation on behalf of the Armenians of the Netherlands in connection with your above-mentioned steps, we expect you to respond very quickly,” the letter said.
