Lithuania has called on NATO to deploy troops near the border with Russia amid the conflict over Ukraine, the Russian service of DW reported.

“NATO must respond not only by concentrating its troops on the eastern front, but also by strengthening its military potential. Strengthening the military potential is good, but we must have an algorithm for what to do in Scenario A, Scenario B, Scenario C,” said Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda at a joint press conference with Vladimir Zelensky and Andrej Duda. He said NATO should have an algorithm of actions for any scenario that could threaten the security of Eastern Europe. He also said that the military integration of Russia and Belarus has been an indisputable fact for a long time.

“NATO must first respond to this, as it changes the security situation for the Baltic states,” he said. Nauseda explained that the security of Ukraine and the Baltic states are interconnected.

“In order for us not to discuss the situation in Ukraine, Poland or Lithuania separately, it should be a discussion of regional security. And it should have a wide response at the regional level,” he said.
