WHO predicts an increase in the number of coronavirus infections in Europe

24.03.2021 | 15:23The spread of coronavirus infection is now increasing in many European countries, and WHO predicts an increase in the number of cases in the next few weeks. The statement came from Hans Kluge, director of the World Health Organization (WHO) Regional Office for Europe, in an interview with TASS .
“Unfortunately, the spread of infection is intensifying in most European countries, which leads to an increase in daily infections and deaths. We think that during the next four weeks there is a tendency for these indicators to grow. But that could change if vaccinations are given more quickly and if people use protective masks more. The main strategy to overcome the spring wave is to speed up vaccinations and wearing protective masks. For overcoming the new waves and avoiding overcrowded hospitals in some countries stricter measures, including social distance will be needed. And this is especially true because in most European countries we are seeing the spread of mutated versions of COVID, which was first found in Britain and is now prevalent. We know this version is spreading faster”, Kluge said.
