“The Investigative Committee has issued a statement about the detention of the captives, citing as an example the story that a soldier in the army blew himself up with a grenade. By this they simply say that you must die, if you do not die you’ll be prosecuted. This is a disgraceful, a terrible negative attitude towards soldiers,” Zhanna Aleksanyan, President of the Journalists for Human Rights, NGO said at a discussion dedicated to non-statutory relations in the military.
“In an interview with RFE/RL yesterday, General Gagik Melkonyan said the same thing: a soldier should commit suicide but not be taken prisoner. How many such examples can they give? Not even five such examples for this war. Is it so easy for a person to kill himself? Go and blow yourself up with a grenade,” she said.
