10.12.2021 | 12:29The National Assembly of the Artsakh Republic today issued a statement.
Below is the text of the statement.
On December 10, 1991, guided by the norms of international law, the people of Artsakh said a resounding “yes” to the already proclaimed Republic of Nagorno Karabakh (Artsakh) in a nationwide referendum. This step of the people of Artsakh restored the dignity of the Armenians, the will and determination to live freely in their homeland. For 30 years, as an expression of the will of the people, the Armenians of Artsakh have created a sovereign, legal and social state based on universal values. Under constant threats and hostility from Azerbaijan, the steps of the Artsakh Republic are aimed at maintaining peace and stability in the region.
Violating its commitment before the OSCE Minsk Group and co-chair countries not to use force or threat of force, Azerbaijan, on September 27, 2020, with the participation of Turkey and international terrorist organizations, launched a large-scale military operation against the Artsakh Republic killing thousands of our compatriots, occupied most of the republic, and destroyed its material and national cultural heritage. In the conditions of Azerbaijan’s hatred of Armenians, provocative, aggressive rhetoric and actions resulting from all that in the post-war months, the Armenians of Artsakh, loyal to 1991 historical decisions, is building its future and overcoming difficulties.
We bow our heads to all the martyred heroes who gave their lives for the sake of the Artsakh Republic, the right of the Artsakh Armenians to live freely. For the people of the Artsakh Republic, the issues of international recognition of the state, liberation of the occupied territories, repatriation of the displaced population, unconditional release of prisoners of war, hostages, protection of the Armenian national cultural heritage remain priority. We call on the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chair countries to take visible steps to implement the demands of the Armenians of Artsakh for the right to live freely.
