The pro-government Republic-Ata Jurt party is leading with 16.4 percent of the vote in Kyrgyzstan’s parliamentary elections after more than 97% of the ballots were counted. It is followed by the pro-government Ishenim (Confidence) party with 13.2% of votes and the Yentimak (Agreement) parties with 10.7% of votes, DW’s Russian service reported.

After the 97% of the votes were counted, the opposition Alliance party has 8.07% of the votes. Another opposition party, Butun Kyrgyzstan (United Kyrgyzstan), has received 6.6% of the vote. The last party that currently manages to overcome the 5% threshold to be represented in parliament is Yiman Nuru (Light of Conscience): 5.95% of voters voted for this party.

President of Kyrgyzstan Sadir Japarov has already called for the recognition of the election results. Oppositionists, however, accuses him of arresting all his opponents on the eve of the elections. The special services of Kyrgyzstan said they arrested 15 people, including MPs, former high-ranking officials, who were allegedly plotting to overthrow the government. The names of the detainees, however, are not mentioned.
