24.11.2021 | 19:40The European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) has started consultations on five complaints against Azerbaijan, four of which are related to the blocking of websites in Azerbaijan, Khalid Aghaliyev, an expert on international law, has told the Turan news agency.
He said the applicants in this case are azadliq.org, anaxeber.az, 24saat.org and xural.com news sites. The availability of these resources in Azerbaijan was limited at the suggestion of the Ministry of Communications, by various court decisions. They are based on national security, territorial integrity, and prevention of public order and disorder. Aghaliyev said the applicants had asked the ECHR to recognize a violation of their right to freedom of expression under other articles of the Convention on Human Rights and Freedoms. The ECHR has sent relevant inquiries to the Government of Azerbaijan. The Strasbourg court also demanded an explanation as to the presence or absence of political motives in the site blocking decisions.
