18.11.2021 | 20:32The need for Russia to continue its mediation efforts to resolve the disputed issues between Armenia and Azerbaijan is increasing, Russian President Putin said when addressing the enlarged session of the Russian Foreign Ministry Board.
He said the events taking place on the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan show that the situation in the region has not calmed down yet.
“The recent shootings on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border show that the situation in the region has not calmed down. In order to ensure stability, the presence of the Russian peacekeeping troops is extremely needed as a guarantor of maintaining peace in the region and ensuring the security of the civilian population. Undoubtedly, the role of Russian diplomacy in resolving the disputed issues between Armenia and Azerbaijan, restoring economic ties in the region, and opening vital transport corridors is growing,” Putin said.
