Polish security forces on Wednesday night prevented a large group of illegal migrants from attempting to cross the border by force, Evelina Scepanska of the Border Guard Service told TASS.
“The incident took place late last night. The situation is very difficult. Violent attempts are constantly made to cross the border. This time 150 aggressive migrants tried to cross the border in Bialoveza region. They threw sticks and stones at our employees and tried to break the fence with sticks. This attempt was thwarted; later some of those people were taken to the forest by the Belarusian security forces,” she said.
She added that the border guard service is following the development of the situation and expects that there will be similar new attempts in the coming days.
During this year, the Polish border guards prevented almost 33,000 attempts to cross the Polish-Belarusian border illegally. Mostly Iraqi citizens are trying to cross into Poland. Many of them have expressed a desire to reach Germany.
