10.11.2021 | 16:12Talks on Ankara’s bid to buy 40 F-16 fighter jets and 80 modernization kits between Turkey and the United States will begin next month, an American official told YetkinReport, Turkish media reported.
The official said the talks over the F-16 are separate from the F-35 on legal and technical grounds, as the return of Turkey to the F-35 program is no longer a subject of negotiations.
The official also added that the talks will take place in Ankara, noting that it is a long and complicated process, noting that Turkey has been officially removed from the F-35 program since September 23. “Turkish companies will continue to produce parts for F-35 fighter jets for a few months or longer, after which it will be completed. The production of these parts is already envisaged by the contract with other countries,” the official said.
