22.10.2021 | 12:29Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, despite many difficulties, have taken a significant step to stop the bloodshed in Nagorno Karabakh, said Russian President Vladimir Putin in his speech at the Valdai International Debate Club, referring to the Artsakh conflict.
“There is a potential aspect: preconditions must be created for the establishment of long-term peace in the region. We will achieve that if both sides accept the agreements as long-term,” he said.
He noted that Russia has done everything to stop the bloodshed. “Thanks to our peacekeepers, about 50,000 deportees were able to return to their homeland.”
Speaking about the Armenian-Azerbaijani border situation, Putin noted that the participation of both sides and Russia is enough for the demarcation.
“At this moment, the important thing is to clearly define the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, for which no one is needed except for both sides and Russia. You have to be pragmatic. Why ․․․ Because the maps are in the General Staff of the Russian Army, which show how the border between the two countries was crossed during the Soviet years. It is necessary to make a border with these documents. It must happen as a result of a compromise, possibly with certain changes acceptable to both sides,” said Putin.
