We have more critical cases than during the previous waves – Minister of Health
The situation with the coronavirus is tense in the country, 20 medical centers are already fully or partially serving patients with Covid, Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan told journalists today.
“During this week, regional medical centers – Artashat MC, Gyumri Infectious Diseases Hospital – will start serving patients with Covid. We see that our bed reserves are almost completely mobilized, because, unfortunately, it is a feature of the delta variant that we need more hospitalization, we have more severe and critical cases than we had during the previous waves. With each subsequent wave, this trend is noticeable not only in Armenia, but also in the whole world,” she said.
Avanesyan added that people who have been vaccinated against coronavirus also get treatment in hospitals. She said this is comparable to the situation that exists in other countries, where there are high rates of vaccinations.
“But vaccines have a very serious preventive effect; they often reduce the risk of serious, and critical illness and deaths.”
