Iran concerned by incidents of stopping by Azeri police of its trucks for inspections on Armenian road
Iran is concerned about the incident of Azerbaijani police stopping Iranian trucks on the Kapan road in Armenia and checking documents, but they believe that the issue will be resolved through negotiations between the parties, Vali Kaleji, a researcher at the Iranian Center for Strategic Studies and expert on the South Caucasus and Central Asia, told Factor.am.
“Iran, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Bulgaria and Greece have created an international corridor connecting the Persian Gulf to the Black Sea. One of the most important ways for Iran to use this direction is through Armenia. For us, the road connecting us with Russia through Azerbaijan is also important. So we believe that the safe transportation of things, goods and people through these roads must be guaranteed,” he said.
Armenian National Security Service said earlier that since noon of September 12, the Azerbaijan police stop and carry out inspection of cargo and documents of Iranian trucks on the Goriz-Kapan interstate road near the Vorotan village in the section of Eyvazli village which is under the control of Azerbaijan.
“The border guards of the National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia and the servicemen of the border service of the Russian FSB are carrying out joint work to resolve the situation,” the NSS said in the statement.
