European Commission signs second vaccine supply contract with Nubar Afeyan’s “Moderna”

17.02.2021 | 18:35The European Commission has approved the contract with “Moderna”, the company of American-Armenian philanthropist and businessman Nubar Afeyan, to supply an additional 300 million doses of COVID vaccine. The statement came from the president of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen during a news conference in Brussels, the official website of the European Commission reports.
According to the statement, 150 million doses of the vaccine should be delivered in 2021, the remaining 150 million, in 2022, if necessary. The new treaty also provides the donation of vaccines to low- and middle-income countries.
Ursula von der Leyen noted that 22 million people in the European Union have already been given the first dose of the COVID vaccine, which is about 5% of the population. 7 million people have been given two doses of the vaccine. The president of the Europen Commission noted that to date, the European Union has received 33 million doses of vaccine.
