Japan provides Armenia with a $3.6 million emergency aid

17.02.2021 | 11:41Yesterday, the Japanese government decided to provide a $ 3.6 million emergency aid grant to Armenia in response to the humanitarian crisis caused by the armed conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. According to the report of the Embassy of Japan in Armenia, the assistance is intended to the improvement of the living environment, in particular, shelter repairs, medical support, as well as assistance to the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), International Migration Through the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) with $2 million, $1 million, $0.2 million և $0.4 million, respectively. The assistance provided in Armenia is the following:
provision of medical-technical training to 6 hospitals and medical equipment to healthcare institutions;
installation of handwashing areas in 3 primary schools to ensure safe water access;
provision of hygiene items and other support items to about 2.300 people;
renovation and reconstruction of 3 evacuation centers; provision of assistance items for winter to about 4.000 people;
provision of medical equipment to 17 healthcare institutions;
restoration of 15 school institutions and provision of educational materials.
