18.02.2021 | 10:53Georgian Prime Minister Georgy Gakharia announced his decision to resign during a special briefing today, Sputnik Georgia reports. The head of the Georgian government explained his decision by the political crisis in the country. “I have decided to leave my post. Undoubtedly, I believe and wish that this step will contribute to the reduction of polarization in our country, as I am convinced that polarization and conflict between us are the biggest threat to our country’s future, economic development and a crisis of any kind,” Gakharia said.
At the same time, Georgian Prime Minister emphasized that the reason for his resignation was the dispute with the ruling party over the court’s decision to detain Niki Melia.
