Former Gyumri mayor charged with abuse of office, other crimes

Former mayor of Gyumri Vardan Ghukasyan has been charged with misappropriation of numerous state or community property through criminal abuses, the press service of the Prosecutor’s Office reported.
“Sufficient evidence has been obtained in the criminal case under investigation in the Shirak Regional Investigation Department that, being the head of Gyumri community, Vardayn Ghukasyan, during his tenure, with the help of several officials of Gyumri Municipality, falsified the certificates of the municipality, which are official documents, the protocols of the auction commission, sometimes participating in the auctions of land alienation in violation of the requirements of the bargaining law, alienated many state or community-owned lands prohibited from the transfer of ownership of legal entities to citizens as defined by Article 60 of the Armenian Land Code,” the indictment says.
Ghukasyan has not been arrested under the promise of not leaving the city.
