28.07.2021 | 13:48“I am fully aware that at the moment, when we are carrying out this event, there are armed operations in the territory of Armenia, in Gegharkunik. Naturally, we are with the soldiers, the families of the killed soldiers. We also realize that all this is happening in the context that the situation on the Armenian-Azerbaijani border is deteriorating,” said French Ambassador to Armenia Jonathan Lacote, who was attending a press conference on the completion of the Erebuni archeological excavations at Erebuni Fortress.
He said the events taking place on the Armenian border and the current situation cause concern in France, as the security situation on the Armenian border is deteriorating due to the ceasefire violation.
“In this context, France calls for the resumption of the political process between Armenia and Azerbaijan, but it must be fair and must not take place under force or other influence. Naturally, there are contacts between France, the United States and Russia within the framework of the Minsk Group, so that first we can contribute to calming the situation, and then to the resumption of the political process. Naturally, at this moment our main concern is the situation on the borders of Armenia. We do not forget about the points of the November 9 announcement, in particular, the point of release of all prisoners of war held in Azerbaijan,” the ambassador said.
On July 28, at around 03:40, the units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces attacked the Armenian positions located in the north-eastern direction of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. As of 08:30, the Armenian side has three victims and two wounded as a result of the hostilities launched after the attack initiated by the units of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces.
