Russia, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan to hold joint military exercises near Afghan border

19.07.2021 | 19:42Russia, Uzbekistan and Tajikistan will hold joint military exercises at the Tajik Kharb Maido military base, located 20 kilometers from the border with Afghanistan. The exercise will take place from August 5 to 10. This was announced by the commander of the Central Military District, Colonel-General Alexander Lapin, Lenta writes. According to him, during the military exercises it is planned to work out “the preparation of military operations by the joint forces to crush the detachments of illegal armed formations that invaded the territory of the union state.” The number of soldiers participating in the exercise has not been reported yet. Earlier, the Russian Defense Ministry announced that it plans to hold large-scale joint military exercises with troops from Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan amid escalating tensions in the region on the Afghan-Tajik border.
