The European Union is ready to play a positive role in achieving peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, EU Council President Charles Michel told a news conference following talks with Azerbaijani President Ilham Ali in Baku.

“We have to think about what to do to achieve peace and progress, what elements must be taken into account to ensure stability and security in the region. I had the opportunity to discuss this issue with the President of Azerbaijan. I appealed to the Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of Azerbaijan and made it clear that the European Union is ready to play a positive role in this issue,” Michel said, TASS reported. He said the European Union supports the OSCE mediation activity. “But this does not prevent the EU from sharing its experience, supporting greater security, stability, which, most importantly, in achieving peace in the region, and proposing some ideas for the possible advancement of the peace process,” he said.

Yesterday, Charles Michel visited Armenia, had meetings with Acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and President Armen Sargsyan. He also visited the Tsitsernakaberd Memorial, Khor Virap, and toured the Yerevan metro.
