According to accounts in social networks, a number of bodies were kept in bags on the floor in the former ambulance station of the Vanadzor Medical Center. A Vanadzor resident had found a female body in a plastic bag there. According to his Facebook post, the man called the police telling them about his discovery. Later, the police had called him back to say what he had found were really human bodies. He was also contacted by the Ministry of Health.

When contacting by Factor.am seeking explanation, Vahan Mkrtchyan, the CEO of the Vanadzor Hospital, denied any comment.

However, Varuzhan Sakanyan, the region’s forensic official, speaking reluctantly, told Factor.am the bodies of the dead were really kept in the mentioned area, then he added that no other bodies have been kept there for about two months “The reason was the war and the epidemic caused by the coronavirus. The deaths from COVID were kept in a specially designated area of the former ambulance department, separated from Vanadzor Medical Center, in order to reduce contact with the rest of the deaths during the post-war period. The patients who died from coronavirus were taken from the MC to the mentioned area in a frozen bag, from where they were transferred to their relative,” he said.
