The absence of the ambassadors of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairing countries, the United States, France and Russia, among the ambassadors of other countries who visited the Armenian towns of Shushi on July 9-10, has been actively discussed in Azerbaijan. The local media applied to the ambassadors of the three countries in Baku for comment. In particular, the editorial office of Haqqin.az asked the US Ambassador to Azerbaijan Earle Litzenberger to answer a number of questions and presented the embassy’s answers. To the question why the ambassador refused Baku’s invitation to visit Shushi, the embassy answered: “We do not comment on the details of the ambassador’s schedule or the reasons why he cannot be present at some events. We want to mention that on Friday there were representatives of a number of diplomatic missions in Baku who could not go to Fizuli and Shushi.”

The outlet also asked why the United States acts in a coordinated manner with Russia on the Nagorno Karabakh issue, when it imposes various sanctions on Moscow. “The United States has imposed sanctions on Russia for its 2014 occupation of Ukraine, its cyber-activities, its anti-terrorist operations, its human trafficking, its proliferation of weapons, and other harmful activities. The United States is not looking for a confrontation with Russia. We look forward to Russia returning to the model of international obligations based on international rules, which will allow us to build a more stable and predictable bilateral relationship. The United States does not rule out cooperation with Russia as co-chair of the OSCE Minsk Group, as well as on issues of mutual global interest, such as sanctions, arms reductions and climate change.”

The Turan agency applied to the French embassy in Baku with the same question. In response to the media inquiry, they said the following ․ “The French Embassy does not comment on the ambassador’s schedule.”

The Russian embassy did not respond to the questions.
