08.07.2021 | 12:56The Criminal Court of Appeals ruled today to uphold a lower court’s ruling to detain the CEO of the Izmirlian Medical Center, Armen Charchyan, who was running on the Armenia bloc ticket at the past parliamentary election.
“Unfortunately, once again we had a fetishism arrest in the conditions of aggressive manifestation of political persecution,” Charchyan’s lawyer, Aram Vardjanyan, told reporters. “No matter how much pressure they put on, be sure that Armen Charchyan will be free.”
Charchyan’s other lawyer, Erik Aleksanyan, said that Judge Lusine Abgaryan, who was examining the complaint, is a professional, but the decision is unacceptable for them.
“This is a mocking of the law. There is no reason to keep Mr. Charchyan in prison,” he said.
Charchyan was arrested on suspicion of pressuring employees of the Izmirlyan Medical Center to vote for the Armenia bloc.
