17.06.2021 | 18:32Following extensive discussions held in the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Dutch Parliament yesterday, the parliament passed today a resolution by an overwhelming majority of votes (147 in favor, 3 against) demanding the release of the Armenian prisoners of war and civilians, the Armenian embassy in the Netherlands said.
The resolution says in particular: “As a Russian brokered ceasefire has been signed between Armenia and Azerbaijan, which contains a clause on the exchange of the prisoners, hostages, other detainees and the bodies of the dead, and since the Geneva Convention (III) on the treatment of prisoners of wars obliges Armenia and Azerbaijan to release the prisoners of war immediately after the end of military operation, and since those countries have a duty to treat prisoners of war with dignity and to protect detained civilians, noting that Azerbaijan has not yet released all Armenian captives, it called on the Minister to put pressure on Azerbaijan in the (European) Council to immediately repatriate all Armenian captives and detainees.”
